Executive Director

Main Street Ottumwa (MSO), a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, is searching for a self-motivated leader to fill the position of Executive Director.
 

Position Description
The position of Executive Director is a full-time, exempt position that reports directly to the MSO Board of Directors.  The Executive Director works independently as the MSO representative, providing leadership in developing and implementing policies and programs to carry out the work of the organization using the Main Street 4 Point Approach.  

 

Summary of Duties/Responsibilities

  • Administers the MSO Main Street Program, working in collaboration with Main Street Iowa and Main Street America. Prepares and submits required reporting. Attends workshops and conferences required to maintain Main Street designation. Supports and facilitates the bi-annual accreditation process.

  • Oversees the daily administration of the organization by implementing policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Reports to the Board of Directors, maintaining open communication and disclosure of the conditions, operations, and needs of the organization. 

  • Coordinates and develops meeting agendas and packets for Board and Committee meetings.

  • Champion the strategic plan internally and externally, communicating the vision to motivate stakeholders and partners toward shared objectives. 

  • Manages various committees including coordinating and directing volunteers and provides oversight of volunteer opportunities. 

  • Oversee management and hiring of staff

  • Serves as the key spokesperson for the organization, raising awareness of the organization’s work.

  • Monitors and manages the financial health of the organization, works in coordination with the Board of Directors and Organization Committee to maintain financial sustainability.

  • Oversees reporting to city and county, including management of downtown improvement district (SSMID)

  • Supports and directs all marketing, website, social media, and public relations activities to build and maintain community and public relationships.

  • Executes other duties as requested and assigned by the Board of Directors

  • Ability to establish and maintain thriving relationships with diverse stakeholders, including, but not limited to, City of Ottumwa, Wapello County, partner organizations, community and neighborhood leaders, business owners, property owners, neighborhood residents, contractors and developers, and the general public

  • Public speaking and presentation skills

  • Understanding of economic development and economic restructuring, small business and entrepreneurship

  • An appreciation for the history of a place and its neighborhoods

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and G Suite

  • Other key skills include high attention to detail, confidentiality, thoroughness, decision making, ability to work independently, accountability, etc.

 

Work is in an office setting but will require mobility during special events and conferences. In this position, it is necessary that the hours and days of the week be flexible. Minimum travel is expected with this position, must have your own reliable transportation, ability to canvass the MSO district associated businesses and residents, as needed, desk work along with lifting up to 30 pounds.

 

Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience.
